Torrential rain floods eastern Spain, killing at least four

What happened
Torrential rain swept across eastern Spain on Monday, 19 October, flooding towns along the Mediterranean coast and killing at least four people, authorities said. Three of the deaths were in the Valencia region, two of them in the coastal town of Oliva, and a woman died in Catalonia after falling into a rain-swollen stream. Some areas received up to 700 litres of rain per square metre in 24 hours. Helicopters lifted residents from rooftops, more than 400 rescues were carried out in the Valencia region, and more than 800,000 people were told to shelter indoors.
Families in eastern Spain are mourning loved ones, and thousands of households are cleaning up after floodwater swept through their towns.
