Three civilians killed in Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan, UN confirms

What happened
Pakistani airstrikes overnight into Monday 21 September hit Kunar and Paktika provinces in Afghanistan. The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) confirmed the deaths of three civilians: a man, a woman and a girl. According to Afghanistan's Taliban government, a strike at around 3am in Kunar's Nurgal district completely destroyed a family's house, killing three members of the family and injuring four others; in Paktika, it said, a shop and an unoccupied house were destroyed. Pakistan said the strikes targeted militant facilities and killed 28 militants. That figure is Pakistan's own claim about combatants, not a civilian toll. Figures may change as the situation develops.
In Kunar province, one family lost three of its members when their home was destroyed, and four more of them were injured. Families along the border in Kunar and Paktika are living with continuing cross-border strikes between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
