Storm floods southern France, killing at least three

What happened
Violent storms brought exceptionally heavy rain and flash flooding to southern France from Tuesday, 20 October. In the Bouches-du-Rhône department two women, aged 26 and 86, drowned in a flooded cellar in Lançon-Provence, and a 75-year-old man died near Istres after his car was swept away; the prefect said the water had risen to unprecedented levels. Some reports put the toll at four, including a death in Corsica, where a vehicle was carried off by a torrent. Flood warnings covered the Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Gard, Hérault, Vaucluse, Ardèche and Haute-Corse.
Families in southern France are mourning people killed by sudden floodwater, and many more are cleaning up flooded homes and streets.
