What happened
Somali pirates killed five crew members aboard the Palau-flagged tanker MT Honour 25, hijacked in May, before Puntland’s maritime police retook the ship, officials said on 29 September. Three Pakistanis, one Indian and one Myanmar national were killed, and another crew member was injured. They are believed to be the first killings by Somali pirates in more than a decade.
Families in Pakistan, India and Myanmar are mourning crew members they had waited months to see freed.
