Pakistani airstrikes kill at least nine women and children in Afghanistan, Kabul says

What happened
Pakistani airstrikes overnight into 1 October hit civilian homes in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Helmand provinces, killing at least nine people, all women and children, and wounding 11, the Taliban government said; the United Nations has also reported civilian casualties. Pakistan said its strikes targeted militant hideouts. The strikes in Helmand were rare, and come after weeks of renewed cross-border attacks.
Families in Kunar and Helmand are mourning women and children killed in their homes, and 11 people are being treated for their wounds.
