What happened
Bangladesh’s measles outbreak has killed 1,186 people since mid-March, the Directorate General of Health Services said on Friday, 16 October. Of those deaths, 104 were from confirmed measles and 1,082 were among people, most of them children, who had measles-like symptoms. Five more deaths were reported in the previous 24 hours, and a public health expert said the wave of infections may last at least another month while a national vaccination drive takes effect.
Families across Bangladesh are losing children to a measles outbreak that is still claiming lives every day.
