Gunmen kill 28 in two mass shootings near Johannesburg and Cape Town

What happened
Gunmen killed 18 people and wounded 15 at a tavern in Wedela township, southwest of Johannesburg, on 27 September; the eight attackers, armed with assault rifles, torched vehicles as they fled. In a separate attack the same night, gunmen killed 10 people at a store in Lwandle, near Cape Town. Police have launched a manhunt, and no arrests have been reported.
Two communities are mourning 28 people killed in a single night, and 15 people are recovering from their wounds.
