What happened
Four Canadian service members were killed and dozens more seriously injured when fire swept through Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta on the afternoon of Saturday, 17 October, Prime Minister Mark Carney said. Alberta’s premier, Danielle Smith, said on Sunday that 39 people were still in hospital, at least 19 of them in critical condition. Unconfirmed reports have put the death toll higher. The military said there was no indication of terrorism, and the cause is under investigation.
Families of Canadian service members are grieving, and dozens of soldiers are being treated in hospital after a fire at their base in Alberta.
