Boat collision on the Congo River kills at least 30 as search continues
What happened
Two vessels collided at night on the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Équateur province, killing at least 30 people, officials said on 5 October, and rescuers are still searching the river. “Almost all the passengers on board were trapped underwater, and the boat itself also sank,” a security forces witness told The Associated Press.
Families along the Congo River are mourning relatives who were travelling on the boats.
