What happened
Air strikes on an artisanal gold mine in a remote area on Sudan’s border with Egypt killed at least 72 workers on Saturday, 10 October, the Sudanese rights group Emergency Lawyers said. The group accused Egypt’s air force of carrying out the attack. The toll and the accusation have not been independently verified, and Egypt has not commented. It was the second deadly strike on miners in the area in several months.
Workers who had gone to the mines to earn a living were killed far from any help.
